Frequently Asked Questions
·A good co-wash before installation is always great. This will remove any stray hairs and minimize shedding. It also brings the hair to its most natural state.
·Do not cut the weft. Cutting the wefts cause excessive shedding of the bundle
·Shampoo & condition. After a good shampoo & condition, allow your bundles to air dry if possible.
·When coloring or lifting (bleaching) we suggest your stylist to use the lowest level developer. We do not recommend 40 or 50 volume developers. Using these high developers can greatly compromise the integrity of your bundles and can be damaging.
·We recommend shampoos and conditions that are sulfate and alcohol free. Products that contain these 2 ingredients can be extremely drying to your hair. A great example of sulfate and alcohol-free products can be found in the Shea Moisture line of products. A weekly co-wash is a great way to maintain the health and appearance of your hair.
·Always use a heat protectant when applying drying or styling tools to your hair. This includes hooded dryers too.
·Curly hair is high maintenance. Daily moisturizing and detangling are highly recommended. It is best to detangle while conditioner or product is still on the hair.
·Detangle all hair types with a wide tooth comb. Began at the ends and work your way up. This minimize breakage and makes the process of detangling easier.
·Avoid heavy oils, when moisturizing your hair. Heavy oils can weigh your hair down and limit your styling options.
·Protect your hair every night if possible. To protect your braids, wear a silk or satin head scarf. This includes bonnets too! This prevents your braids from frizzing and keeps your hair looking nice and neat.
·Oil your scalp. Doing so will help prevent your hair from drying out and breaking. We advise you to oil your scalp at least three or four times a week, depending on how dry your hair gets. Here are a few oils we suggest: wild growth, coconut oil, almond oil or Mane ‘n tail braid sheen.
·Wash your braids. The build-up of products used can be damaging to your hair. It is important to wash your braids every two weeks. But you don’t need to drench your braids in water! There is dry shampoo available to use.
·Extend your style by redoing your perimeter. We advise all clients to come in for a touch up at 4 weeks. This allows your edges and braids to stay fresh.
·Set a time limit. Protective styling is NOT long- term. After 8 weeks your braids become overdue. Do not leave your braids in for over 8 weeks. Doing so can damage your new growth and cause it to become damage. In addition, this can cause hair loss.
